I’ll never forget the feeling of not knowing where my family was going to sleep at night or if my younger siblings will go hungry. At the age of 12, I shouldn’t have had this type of adult stress but I did. My single mother tried her best and it just wasn’t enough. The end result was us becoming homeless. Because, my mother was single and we were very young, it didn’t take long for us to find a shelter that would take us in. I was all of a sudden surrounded by people who cared and wanted to make sure that my family and I could get back on our feet. This was the beginning of the very reason I do what I do today. Because somewhere there is a mother struggling to make ends meet or someone who is unsure of what to do with finding housing. I will continue to work until I have helped to lessen the numbers of homelessness in our communities.
